    Engineer Week Spotlight: Miles Waldron is an Electrical Engineer with the Southwestern Division’s Operations and Regulatory Branch. He started working for the Corps in 1987. Before working for SWD he worked in the Mobile District as an Operations Project Manager, overseeing Carters Lake, and in the Little Rock District as a Hydropower Superintendent over Bull Shoals and Norfork powerhouses.

    Dyron Jolly serves as a human resource specialist in the Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Dallas, Texas, a position he’s held since May 2008. In this position, he is responsible for assisting the director of human resources in establishing and managing a comprehensive civilian human resources program and providing staff advisory and consultant services to the division commander, district commanders, subordinate district offices and all organizational elements.
  • SWD Black History Month Spotlight: Frederick Olison

    Born in Selma, Alabama in 1964, Olison shared his mother’s experience as a protester in his hometown. During a peaceful protest, police were called in to disperse the crowd. As the clash escalated and protesters ran for safety, Olison’s mother fell. As a mounted officer was about to strike her with a cattle prod, he realized she was pregnant and chose not to and let her go. The knowledge of that event has led Olison to a call to service and give back to his church, community and nation as a military and civil service member.
  • Statement Regarding the Dakota Access Pipeline

    Washington, D.C. – Today, the Army informed the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Energy Transfer Partners, and Dakota Access, LLC, that it has completed the review that it launched on September 9, 2016. The Army has determined that additional discussion and analysis are warranted in light of the history of the Great Sioux Nation’s dispossessions of lands, the importance of Lake Oahe to the Tribe, our government-to-government relationship, and the statute governing easements through government property.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives day use fees at recreation areas on Veterans Day

    DALLAS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families at the more than 2,800 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide on Veterans Day, November 11.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Southwestern Division met for its biannual Command Week at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma from Oct. 17 to Oct. 20, 2016.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers launches second year of Every Kid in a Park program

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today it will continue its support of President Obama’s initiative Every Kid in a Park pass program, which officially begins its second year today. Launched last year, the initiative gives fourth grade students and their families free access to federal lands and waters as well as some state parks for a full school year.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 24

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 24.
  • Roberts named Real Estate Professional of the Year

    Fort Worth, Texas native Randy L. Roberts has been named the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Real Estate Professional of the Year. Roberts’ exemplary and exceptional service to the U.S. Army, Real Estate Community of Practice, and to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Southwestern Division (SWD) elevated him to top honors.
  • Partnering agreement improves coordination for large Texas water supply projects

    Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Southwestern Division, the Environmental Protection Agency's Region 6, and the Texas Water Development Board met today for a Partnering Agreement signing that will improve interagency coordination related to large water supply projects in the state of Texas.
