  • A multigenerational workforce brings opportunities, challenges for the Corps

    Famous author Rick Riorden once wrote, “People are more difficult to work with than machines. And when you break a person, he can't be fixed.” While Mr. Riorden was writing about a Greek god in one of his fictional books, the sentiment can be applied to any workplace environment. The bottom line is this: for any organization to be successful, it is crucial to take care of the people that make it run.
  • Southwestern Division attorney earns Corps of Engineers legal award

    DALLAS—Ernest A. Burford, assistant Division Counsel for the Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has been honored with a Seltzer Award for his contributions to the Corps’ legal services mission.
  • A Patriot Day Bronze Star for Texas Rangers coach

    ARLINGTON, TEXAS--Texas Rangers bench coach Bobby Jones receives the citation for the Bronze Star Medal, awarded for his service in Vietnam. Presenting the award was Col. Richard J. Muraski Jr., deputy commander of the Southwestern Division, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Tamara R. Mahaffey named 2014 USACE Logistician of the Year

    DALLAS--Tamara R. Mahaffey, Logistics Manager for the Southwestern Division’s Fort Worth District, is the recipient of the USACE Meritorious Logistician Award for 2014. Mahaffey beat out more than 500 eligible logisticians from across the Corps to win the prestigious award. “I am blessed with a team of analytical, forthright, and dedicated professionals who willingly go ‘out of the box’ in order to achieve greatness,” said Mahaffey. “I accept this award on their behalf.”
  • SWD commander promoted to brigadier general

    FORT BELVOIR, VA--David C. Hill, the commander of the Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in a ceremony Aug. 8 at Fort Belvoir, Va. Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick, Commanding General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, promoted Hill.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers honors Rumanda Young with Morris Civilian of the Year Award

    FORT WORTH, Texas – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has given Dr. Rumanda K. Young of Fort Worth the Lt. Gen. John W. Morris Civilian of the Year Award, which recognizes the single civilian employee achieving the highest overall standards of excellence.
  • Southwestern Division collaboration ensures no community is left behind

    DALLAS - No community left behind seeks to close the gaps in communication by uniting all national organizations, private sector associations and government at all levels to develop a shared vision for flood risk management. Collaboration and leveraging are essential to integrating the goals, resources and capabilities of local, State and federal agencies to reduce flood risks using a “bottom-up” outreach approach that aims to leave no community behind.

    Col. David C. Hill took command of the Southwestern Division today in a ceremony officiated by Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick, commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
  • SWD’s Army Values Program honors seven

    DALLAS--The core values of an organization are those that form the very fabric of an organization, the guiding principles that people use for both job performance and conduct. In the U.S. Army, these are called the Army Values, and they form the acronym LDRSHIP: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. Army Values are American values, and soldiers must live these values more intensely and professionally than most others in civilian life because soldiers serve to protect the Nation and the values upon which it was founded. So they learn these values in detail during their basic combat training and live these values everyday in everything they do.
  • Hill to take command of Corps’ Southwestern Division, confirmed for brigadier general

    DALLAS—Colonel David C. Hill, who is slated to take command of the Southwestern Division, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in Dallas in July, has been confirmed for promotion to the rank of Brigadier General by the United States Senate. Hill will take over leadership of the Southwestern Division in a ceremony here on July 24. The actual promotion date is yet to be determined but is normally several months after Senate confirmation.
