DALLAS-- More than a hundred college, high school and middle school students hoping to gain better insight into their career possibilities met with employees from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Southwestern Division at the Women of Color career fair, part of the Women of Color annual conference Oct. 11-13, at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas

The Women of Color career fair is held every year with a goal of engaging and educating students, particularly minorities, about career opportunities in the science, technology, engineering and math fields and providing outreach opportunities for government and non-government organizations and private companies .This year’s theme was “Waves of Change, Oceans of Opportunity.”

The career fair focused on job opportunities in the STEM fields. SWD had a booth at the fair with experts in engineering, human resources, and management available to answer questions and provide information to students about the Corps of Engineers.

Though the career fair is mostly catered to college age students, more than 75 middle school and high school students patronized the SWD booth, with more than 150 students in total visiting the SWD booth.

The three day conference is capped off with an awards luncheon, honoring emerging minority leaders in the fields of STEM from various private and government organizations as well as a formal gala which recognizes minorities who are the best-of-the best of those currently working in STEM positions throughout the country for various private, NGO and government organizations.

This year’s gala was attended by the Commanding General and Chief of Engineers, Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick and the Southwestern Division Commander, Brig. Gen. Thom Kula.
