The Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers welcomes Benjamin Bracken as the new Director of Human Resources. Bracken recently joined the Division after serving as the Director of Human Resources with the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division in Cincinnati, Ohio for four years. As the SWD Director of Human Resources, Bracken is responsible for all personnel actions within the Division.

“I am very excited to be working for the Southwestern Division and taking on new challenges as the Division implements various workforce shaping scenarios,” Bracken said. “I look forward to getting to know the people of SWD, and becoming a member.”

Bracken’s career with USACE began in 1998 as a student hire with the Omaha District while attending Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. Upon graduation from college, Bracken was offered an intern position with the Omaha District.

While at the Omaha District, Bracken worked predominantly in the areas of training, management-employee relations, labor-management relations, and personnel systems.

Bracken’s federal career has taken him to Stuttgart, Germany where he worked with the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center and the U.S. Africa Command, where he helped stand up the four-star joint Department of Defense command to full operating capability.

Bracken’s Department of the Army honorary awards includes the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, Commander’s Award for Civilian Service and the Superior Civilian Service Award.

“We are so pleased to be working with such a talented HR Director,” said SWD Commander, Brig. Gen. Thomas Kula. “As the Division works through new workforce shaping challenges, Mr. Bracken’s expertise and experience will help ensure SWD continues to make smart decisions that have our employee’s best interests at heart.”
