Mark L. Mazzanti

Mark L. Mazzanti is the Director of Programs for the Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Dallas, a position he has held since June 20, 2016. In this position, he is responsible for the development and execution of Civil Works, Military Missions, and Interagency Support within the Division. He provides leadership and supervision for the SWD Programs Directorate and has staff oversight for programs, planning, and project management activities in the division’s four district offices.

Prior to his current assignment Mazzanti was Chief, Programs Integration Division, Civil Works Directorate, at Headquarters U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he was responsible for the development, defense and execution of the approximately $6 billion annual Corps’ Civil Works program.  He held that position from May 2011 to June 2016.

Mazzanti earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Mississippi in 1979. After beginning work in 1980 with the engineering firm of Kyle, Johnston & Associates in Dallas, he came to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, in 1984.  He also served as the Director of Business Management, Gulf Region Division, Baghdad, Iraq from 2008 to 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Mazzanti was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in July 2009, when he was assigned as Director of Programs for the Mississippi Valley Division/Mississippi River Commission, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in Vicksburg, Miss.   In that capacity, he oversaw execution of the division’s civil works program, including nationally significant programs such as the Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System and the Mississippi River & Tributaries project, as a senior advisor to the Mississippi River Commission. His prior assignments include serving as deputy to the Director of Programs, Chief of the Civil Works Integration Division, and Chief of the Programs Management Branch for the Vicksburg District.

Mazzanti is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers and has received numerous awards over his 30-plus year career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, including a two time recipient of the Department of the Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award; the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service; the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service; the Silver Order of the de Fleury Medal,  and is a twice recipient of the Commander’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Equal Employment Opportunity. He is a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute, Leadership for Democratic Society.
