DALLAS—Mark Mazzanti has been selected to become the director of Programs for the Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, headquartered in Dallas. He will replace Mr. Robert E. Slockbower, who is retiring on June 30.
As the director of Programs, Mazzanti will be responsible for the development and execution of Civil Works, Military, Hazardous, Toxic and Radiological Waste, and Support for Others Programs within the Division. He will provide leadership and supervision for the SWD Programs Directorate and have staff oversight for programs, planning, and project management activities in the division’s four district offices in Fort Worth and Galveston, Texas; Little Rock, Ark.; and Tulsa, Okla.
Mazzanti, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is currently serving as the chief, Programs Integration Division, Civil Works Directorate, Headquarters, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in Washington D.C. He has served in this capacity since May 2011.
“We are very fortunate to have Mr. Mazzanti join our Southwestern Division leadership team,” said Brig. Gen. David C. Hill, SWD commander. “His wealth of experience in the Army Corps of Engineers and the civil works arena makes him a valued asset to our Division as we continue to deliver on our commitments to our region, our military, and the Nation. We are looking forward to his expertise and leadership.”
Mr. Mazzanti was selected to the Senior Executive Service in July 2009, when he was appointed as Programs Director for the Mississippi Valley Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He oversaw the execution of MVD’s Civil Works program, including the Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System and the Mississippi River and Tributaries project. In this position, he also served as a senior advisor to the Mississippi River Commission.
Other prior assignments include serving as Deputy to the director of Programs and the chief of the Civil Works Integration Division in the Mississippi Valley Division and the chief of the Programs Management Branch for the Vicksburg District.
“I’m looking forward to joining the Southwestern Division and leading the Programs Directorate,” Mazzanti said. “SWD has an outstanding reputation for providing great engineering services to our Nation and our national security, and I’m very proud and excited to be a part of this team!”
