The Southwestern Division is working to improve the communities within our region through our program and technical support to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, States and local agencies. In partnership with these agencies, we support the assessment and clean up of Brownfields properties so these properties can be reused.
Brownfields are abandoned, idled, or under-used industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. Southwestern Division is a key partner in helping communities within EPA Region 6 and across America achieve greater livability and sustain a high quality of life.
The Southwestern Division Brownfields Program Management Team (co located with EPA Brownfields staff) has supported the EPA R6 Brownfields Program via multiple Interagency Agreements since 1998 and has consistently provided planning and engineering solutions to help communities solve their Brownfields and sustainability challenges. Our team provides program management, technical services and support which include ASTM Phase l (All Appropriate Inquiries) and Phase ll Environmental Site assessments and Phase lll Cleanup plans for the public (local units of governments), quasi-public (community development organizations), Tribal governments, and non-profit entities as well as other private/semi private parties with projects that benefit the entire community.
