    UASACE’s Southwestern Division encourages safety first while enjoying open recreation facilities this summer

    With the summer season is in full swing, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Southwestern Division reminds everyone that many Corps recreation areas are open, but before venturing out, visitors should check with the local lake office before heading out for local conditions.

    Col. Christopher G. Beck takes command of the Corps’ Southwestern Division

    Col. Christopher G. Beck assumed command of the Southwestern Division from Brig. Gen. Paul E. Owen, today in a ceremony officiated by Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, Chief of Engineers and Commanding General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Owen served as the commander of the division since 2017 and will take command of the Corps’ South Pacific Division in July.

    Corps announces Corpus Christi Ship Channel jetty repairs to begin mid-June

    CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Galveston District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today announced the start of repairs to the entrance jetty of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel located at Aransas Pass. Actual work on the project is scheduled to begin in mid-June.

    USACE to host virtual public review of the Lewisville Lake Master Plan Revision

    The Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host an online review to provide information and receive public input on the final draft revision of the Master Plan for Lewisville Lake. Normally, USACE would conduct a face-to-face public workshop to announce the availability of the draft revised master plan, but precautions associated with the COVID-19 virus have made it necessary to conduct the public involvement process online instead of hosting a face-to-face workshop.

    Houston Ship Channel Expansion Reaches Major Milestone

    GALVESTON, Texas – Yesterday, Galveston District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) received a signed Chief of Engineers Report (Chief’s Report) for the proposed Houston Ship Channel Expansion Project. Signed April 23 by Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, USACE Chief of Engineers and Commanding General, the report culminates a four-year, $10 million study conducted by USACE in partnership with Port Houston to identify needed channel improvements, determine economic value to the nation, and complete necessary environmental requirements. The signed report recommends adoption of the plan presented by Galveston District in order to support economic efficiency of commercial navigation throughout the Houston Ship Channel System.
