• SWD welcomes new Division Counsel

    The Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, welcomes Nancye Bethurem as the Division’s new Division Counsel. Bethurem recently arrived at SWD after serving as Senior Counsel, Compliance Law Department, with Savannah River Remediation LLC in Aiken, S.C. As the Division Counsel, Bethurem is responsible for providing all legal services required to execute a military construction and civil works program.
  • SWD welcomes new Human Resources Director

    The Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers welcomes Benjamin Bracken as the new Director of Human Resources. Bracken recently joined the Division after serving as the Director of Human Resources with the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division in Cincinnati, Ohio for four years. As the SWD Director of Human Resources, Bracken is responsible for all personnel actions within the Division.
  • Corps unable to open campgrounds along navigation system for 2013

    by Tulsa District Public Affairs The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District is unable to open Corps-operated campgrounds along the Oklahoma portion of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System for the 2013 recreation season. Funding for the Oklahoma portion of the navigation system has been reduced to the point where we are not able to safely open and operate the campgrounds.
  • Interagency Military Pass waives day-use fees at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recreation sites

    WASHINGTON - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today it will continue to accept the America the Beautiful Federal Recreation Pass Program's Interagency Annual Pass for Military (Military Pass) at its more than 2,500 USACE-managed recreation areas nationwide.
  • Take your Sons and Daughters to Work Day

    The Southwestern Division celebrated Take your Sons and Daughters to Work Day at the Division headquarters in Dallas April 25. More than 20 children ranging in ages from 5 to 16 participated in fun learning activites led by Division employees. Activities included building a roller-coaster out of paper rolls to demonstrate how gravity works, dropping raisins in water and soda to demonstrate buoyancy, creating animated drawings, a lesson in photosynthesis and a display of how drones, 3-D mapping and computers work. The mission of the days' events is to engage the students about science, technology, engineering and math, and teach them about the many missions of the Corps of Engineers.
  • Corps delays opening recreation areas along navigation system

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District has delayed the official season opening of Corps-operated recreation areas along the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System until at least May 1. Boat ramps will remain open where feasible.

    In a ceremony held at Lake Texoma recently, a commemorative document celebrating the transfer of 600 acres of Lake Texoma shoreline to the City of Denison, Texas, was signed by Congressman Ralph Hall Texas 4th District, Jared Johnson, Mayor, City of Denison, Brig. Gen. Thomas Kula and Developer George Schuler.
  • Little Rock District launches new water level app

    The Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District recently launched a mobile App for anglers, navigators, paddlers and park visitors. The App delivers current water conditions for Corps’ reservoirs, rivers and streams within the district boundaries to include the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System.
