Corps to Hold Public Workshop for Tulsa West Tulsa Levee Feasibility Study

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District in conjunction with Tulsa County Levee Drainage District 12, invite the public to an informational workshop related to the Tulsa West Tulsa Levee Feasibility Study at the Case Community Center in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Feb. 13 from 5 – 8 p.m.

Although no formal presentation will take place, the public is invited to attend, view available general information and ask questions of Corps of Engineers and Tulsa County Levee Drainage District 12 representatives.


The Tulsa West Tulsa Levee Feasibility Study will develop and analyze alternatives, including the ‘No Action Alternative’, to reduce the risk from overtopping or breach of the existing Tulsa West Tulsa Levee System. The goal of the study is to restore acceptable levels of flood risk to Tulsa County Communities and prevent loss of life.

The Tulsa West Tulsa Levee System consists of three sections that are approximately 20 miles in combined length. The structure was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the 1940s. After construction was completed the local sponsor took over levee operation and maintenance in accordance with flood control legislation of the day.
